29 Aug Latest HSE Research – Recirculatory Systems
HSE Research Report RR1224 ‘The selection, use, and maintenance of recirculating local exhaust ventilation: a review’ has been published.
The authors found that the review of the evidence, indicates that there may be a number of recirculating LEV systems that are not working effectively, and therefore not controlling worker exposure to harmful contaminants.
There were also different interpretations across industry as to what constitutes an adequate and suitable filtration efficiency. Future collaborative research with key stakeholders will aim to provide consistency and greater understanding as to the suitability of recirculating systems in key industries, such as wood dust control in woodworking, respirable crystalline silica control in stonemasonry and metalworking fluid mist control in CNC machining.
